Watching the Wheels: A Birthday Tribute to John Lennon (part 2)

October 09, 2010 · Ayala Museum

Lally Buendia (Domino), The Camerawalls (with Francis Reyes), and the final jam with…what, is that John Lennon?

Yes, that’s right—John Lennon rose from his grave and joined us for this very special night. For a few seconds I considered that he might have been an apparition, but, naah, his real name’s Terry and he’s from Chicago. He was innocently sitting in the middle of the audience area with a friend, until two of my concert photography workshop mates and I fished him out of the audience, dragged him to the photobooth and snapped a few shots with him. After that, almost everyone in the place had their photos taken with him. After The Camerawalls’ set, some of the performers gathered on stage and had an incredible final jam! What a fun, amazing night.

Watching the Wheels: A Birthday Tribute to John Lennon (part 1)

October 09, 2010 · Ayala Museum

Tether, The Gentle Isolation, Outerhope, Swissy, Kate Torralba, Your Imaginary Friends

I wasn’t planning to take pictures that night, because I felt like staying in one spot to relax and enjoy the show with my friends. I always make that promise to myself, but I end up shooting, anyway. Haha. Thank goodness I didn’t leave my equipment at home. I had a really nice time! And yes, shame on me for not being very familiar with John Lennon’s solo work. This was a great way to get acquainted with it, anyway! :)

Kings of Convenience and Jens Lekman live in Manila

On the night of March 31, 2010, Norwegian duo Kings of Convenience performed to a fairly intimate but sizeable crowd of about 1,500 at the NBC Tent in Manila, with Swedish indie pop artist Jens Lekman as their opening act. Erlend and Eirik mesmerized the crowd with their soothing vocals and melodies, armed with just their acoustic guitars. One of the last songs in their set, I’d Rather Dance With You, was performed with Jens Lekman.

This gig happened on the eve of my 20th birthday, and I will never, ever forget it because Jens Lekman sang to me backstage after his set, whispering his song “Are Birthdays Happy?” into my ear. Best birthday ever.

Muse live in Singapore 2010

Last February 3, 2010, Muse headlined Big Night Out 2010 at the Singapore Indoor Stadium, supported by Saosin and Rise Against. It was my first time to see them live, having been a fan since I first listened to Absolution in 2004. Needless to say, I had one of the best, most euphoric nights of my life!

It was also my first visit to Singapore, and it was practically a Muse pilgrimage. After the gig, we got into the after-party at the Pan Pacific Hotel, where we met Dom Howard, their drummer, and presented him with a barrel man.

These photos were taken with a Panasonic DMZ-TZ7.

You can also view videos of their performances on my YouTube channel.
